Many Upgrades Miles

used mustang. Help?
I’ve found a used mustang for 8 grand. 2001. LOOKS BRAND NEW. engine is clean as a whisle. Has FR500 chrome rims, bf goodrich tires and interior is really clean and Flowmaster exhaust. The only flaw is it is auto but i might be able to live with that but the biggest flaw is it has almost 110,00 miles on it. My dad says this is too much miles. But is it really? for 8 grand? sounds good to me. I was acually looking for 65,000 or less. but this is from a dealer so it probably runs really good. i havent test drove it yet, but i want to. what should i do? Still take it for a test drive or just find another one. I evenually want to put upgrades on a mustang liek this one. SOo i would save alot with this mustang gt. Any words of Advice?? Also id be putting in half soo 4 grand from me. Is this worth spending my hard earned summer job money on a car with these many miles. will it last me a while?
Thanks soo much.
No vehical with 110k miles is in excellent condition, so if you look up the price on kelly blue book, dont mark excellent. Read what it says about excellent on kelly blue book, it says less then 5% of ALL cars are excellent and these are the cars with absolutely no scratches, no interior wear, no rust, they have to look like they do when you buy them brand new from the dealer. Im sure the car looks awsome for a 2001 with 110k miles but even if the steering wheel has some wear on it, its not brand new or excellent according to kelly blue book. The kelly blue book price for what you should pay if you were to buy this car from another private party is $7,975, I put a link to the site in my source you can check out. The typical milage for this car according to kelly blue book is 75,000 miles. Remember, you also have to pay taxes when buying from a dealership, so add what ever your state tax is. (it is probally around 7% so if you buy the car for $8,000 you would add like another $560 in taxes. In my opinion, even though mustangs have a great reliability and repair history, this is too many miles. Your dad is right. I bet you will spend more money on repairs then you would if you just spent 1-2k more and got a car with 65,000 or less miles like you were looking for. Trust me, you will be thankful you didnt buy this car. I had a toyota pick up for my first car and it was great till it hit 100k miles and then once a month I was dropping 1k on repair work. Remember, with a gt mustang, it probally was driven pretty hard, so 110k miles is just too many. According to consumer reports, the 1999 gt mustangs had an awsome repair and reliabillity history. Maybe, see if you can find a 1999 gt with lees then 60k miles, I would imagine you could get it for around $8k. Even if you want to stick with a 2001, according to kelly blue book, you can get one with 60,000 miles for $10,300. You will save so much money in the long run if you do this instead. Also, I would buy from a private party and just have the car checked out by your mechanic before you buy it. I dont know about where you live, but here in Az most mechanics will check out the car for free if it is your mechanic that you see for the cars you already own. When you buy from a private party you dont have to pay sales tax, so you will save close to 1k there and you usually can get a better price to begin with. Hope I helped, good luck, mike
